One of the most commonly diagnosed of all mental illnesses in the United States, anxiety disorders affect millions of people of all different ages, in all different stages of life. While anxiety is something that everyone experiences at random points throughout their lives, individuals who suffer from anxiety disorders experience such distress on an ongoing basis that it causes significant disruption within their abilities to appropriately function. The presence of anxiety disorders elicit feelings of extreme fear, excessive nervousness, and irrational worrying. Individuals who are struggling with anxiety disorders tend to feel a sense of powerlessness over what occurs in their own minds, leading them to feel helpless to change and hopeless about their futures. Yet, anxiety is an illness that can be successfully treated, and its symptoms can be successfully managed. Life does not have to continue to be a constant struggle.

Helping a Loved One or Family Member Get Treatment
Watching a family member or loved one fight against the overwhelming symptoms of an anxiety disorder on a daily basis can be heart-breaking. You may feel at a loss as to what you can do to help your loved one because so much of what he or she is experiencing is out of his or her control. While it is impossible to take away your loved one’s anxiety, there are some things that you can do that can help your loved one during this difficult time.
- Take the time to become educated on anxiety disorders, learning about the different symptoms that they elicit and the various challenges that they pose to those plagued by them. This can help you gain somewhat of an understanding as to what your loved one is going through, assisting you in being more empathetic and in being a better source of support.
- Research various treatment options and review your findings with your loved one to see which would best meet his or her specific needs.
- Ask questions; do not assume to know or automatically know what your loved one needs.
- Do not offer to do things for your loved one. While this can seem like an obvious way in which to help ease your loved one’s suffering, it can ultimately end in him or her becoming dependent upon you, prolonging the presence of his or her anxiety instead of alleviating it.
- Avoid being judgmental, even when your loved one’s thoughts, words, and behaviors do not make sense to you.
- Refrain from making comments such as, “calm down” or “relax” or “don’t worry” because, in most cases, this will only work towards increasing a person’s anxiety. Remember that the feelings that your loved one is experiencing are out of his or her control.
Why Consider Treatment at Rolling Hills Hospital
Struggling with an anxiety disorder can affect the ability of those suffering from it to perform appropriately at work or school, to concentrate, to interact socially, and to develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships. In severe cases, the presence of an anxiety disorder can even prevent individuals from leaving their homes. When left untreated, the symptoms of anxiety disorders are likely to continue worsening, placing individuals at risk for not only increased mental health problems but physical health problems as well.
Inpatient treatment can be extremely beneficial at helping to alleviate the symptoms that people are experiencing as a result of an anxiety disorder while also helping them to develop the skills needed to regain control of their lives. When individuals enter into an inpatient care, they are immediately entering a safe environment where their only focus is on becoming well. The stresses that result from their normal everyday lives are dulled as they devote themselves to learning about their illnesses, learning how to successfully manage their symptoms, and learning how to reenter the world healthier, in control, and ready to succeed.

Types of Treatment Offered at Rolling Hills Hospital
At Rolling Hills’ mental health center in Ada, we maintain a treatment team of professionals, all of whom are dedicated to providing high-quality care to each and every person that comes to us. All treatment regimens are individualized to meet each patient’s particular needs and stated in measurable terms within the patient’s treatment plan. Most of our treatment options use a combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, but our various treatment options also offer additional therapeutic interventions in order to meet ongoing needs. Your specific needs will determine which unit you will be placed in. The following are some therapeutic treatment methods that may be part of your treatment plan:
Medication management: At Rolling Hills, each one of our patients sees our psychiatrist at least three times a week for evaluation and medication management. All patients will be thoroughly evaluated and monitored throughout the course of treatment. There are various types of medications that may be used in order to help control the different symptoms of anxiety disorders, and because not everyone responds to medications in the same way, your doctor will work with you to ensure that any medications you are prescribed are working properly and effectively, meeting your needs for symptom reduction.
Individual therapy: All of our patients engage in individual therapy on a weekly basis, including a minimum of two hours each week for adolescent patients and at least one hour each week for all other units. During individual therapy, patients can learn to change maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors, while also working towards meeting personal treatment goals.
Group therapy: Here at Rolling Hills’ mental health clinic, we offer a number of different process and expressive groups that are held on a weekly basis. The topics covered in these group sessions will vary some depending upon the unit that a person is in, but some of the topics may include coping skills, life skills, anger management, and managing mental illness.
Family therapy: Family therapy is an important part of the treatment process and is held at least once a week for each patient. On our adolescent unit, family sessions must be held in-person with a licensed therapist. Additionally, the parents or caregivers of our adolescent patients are encouraged to attend regular treatment meetings and are able to call and check on their child on a regular basis.
In addition to the previously mentioned therapeutic methods, Rolling Hills Hospital also provides a number of other services that you may participate in during your stay with us. These additional services may include:
- Recreational therapy
- Expressive therapies (including art, music, pet therapy, and tai chi)
- Daily school
- Emotions anonymous
