Adolescents Program

The adolescent behavioral health services program at Rolling Hills Hospital is designed to meet the needs of youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who are suffering from mental, behavioral, and/or emotional concerns. This program specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric conditions by providing a comprehensive range of services as part of our short-term stabilization treatment model. The interventions that are incorporated into the therapeutic process in our adolescent behavioral health services program include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Crisis stabilization
  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
  • Individualized treatment that is delivered by a multidisciplinary staff who are focused on needs that are specific to adolescents
  • Medication management
  • Medication education
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Recreational therapy
  • Expressive therapies (including art therapy, music therapy, and pet therapy)
  • Coping skills training
  • Life skills training
  • Education offered by a certified public school teacher

The multidisciplinary staff who provides care to the youth in our adolescent program is led by a psychiatrist who has extensive experience working with and addressing the needs and challenges of this younger population. This caring and compassionate staff is made up of psychologists, nurses, licensed therapists, social workers, certified nurse aids, mental health technicians, and recreational therapists, as well as other healthcare professionals within the hospital setting.

All of our patients’ treatment plans are individualized in order to meet each adolescent’s particular needs and are stated in measurable terms within his or her treatment plan. Youth in this program will meet with a psychiatrist at least three times each week for ongoing evaluation and medication management. Individual therapy is provided to adolescents for a minimum of two hours each week, but additional sessions can be added as needed or when requested. Group therapy occurs on an ongoing basis at Rolling Hills, and a number of process groups and expressive groups are held on a weekly basis, during which time discussions are held regarding topics such as coping skills, life skills, anger management, and mental illness management. Family therapy sessions are held at a minimum of once each week and are held in-person with a licensed therapist. We also highly encourage the parents and caregivers of our adolescent patients to attend the regularly held treatment meetings.

The primary goal of treatment in our adolescent behavioral health services program is to help youth regain their mental and emotional health in order to function successfully within the community. By implementing individualized service plans that are tailored to address the unique concerns of each patient who is entrusted in our care, the staff at Rolling Hills Hospital is able to help adolescents stabilize and develop the tools needed to maintain the highest level of functioning, all while remaining in a safe and healing environment that is conducive to healing.
